Financial Forest

Question Zero is based on how young people can gain access to the stock market more easily, gain financial knowledge and improve their own finances. We have developed an application for smartphones, which
is based on three components: Forest (simulated stock market), Grow (reference book) and Stash (create budget).

Already in the first user surveys it became clear that, young people hardly have financial knowledge. However, it was also very clear that they want to learn more about investment opportunities as well as about how to make more monthly reserves. For these reasons the app "Financial forest" is based on three areas: The portfolio management "Forest", the learning area "Grow" and the "Stash" area that enables the mooring and tracking of the savings goals.

The concept of knowledge transfer is based on the idea of a growing tree which is compared to the stock market. Therefore the seeds represent the investment through the investor. The variety of shares can be compared to the variety of plant species. There are fast growing shares which are risky and also slow growing shares with huge volume. One fund with many shares is a forest. In a way the trees serve in an abstract form as a visualization of growth and share volume.

EXPLANATORY MODEL

The app »financial forest« is based on three areas: the portfolio management »Forest«, the learning area »Grow« and the »Stash« part.

The concept of knowledge transfer is based on a comparison of share products with trees. The seed represents the investor's investment, and the multitude of shares is equated with different types of plants. There are fast-growing investments, which are therefore also risky, as well as slow-growing shares with large volumes.

A fund is shown in a similar way to a forest by several shares. In an abstract form, these trees serve as a visualization of growth and share volume.

How might we?

INVESTMENT

We wear thinking about the different obstacles a young person might have with investing money. Here are the most important questions to consider based on the interviews.

The fear of having to invest a lot of time prevents people from learning about investment opportunities and taking advantage of them. How can we minimize the time required and make investing a fun activity?

With small amounts of money, investors are also willing to take a higher risk. How can we make it possible to transfer the risk of a financial transaction and achieve higher profits?

Many people lack an understanding of financial markets and do not know how and where they can invest money.
How can we explain to users in a way that is easy to understand what happens on the financial market and show them strategies for investing money?

DESIGN FACTORS

We have an inexperienced and young target group, which is why we made sure to use simple language. This means avoiding technical jargon as much as possible. If this was not possible, we explained the term using simple sentence structures and thus took our users by the hand.
